CHINO HILLS, Calif. (KABC) -- A woman who was seen walking on the 71 Freeway in Chino Hills holding a knife Friday was struck during a shooting involving a California Highway Patrol officer, authorities said.
The incident unfolded around 11:30 a.m.
According to California Highway Patrol Capt. Salvador Suarez, the Inland Communications Center began receiving multiple calls about a woman with a knife walking on the right shoulder of the NB 71 Freeway near Butterfield Ranch Road and Euclid Avenue.
"They reported that she was a pedestrian acting erratically armed with a knife in her hand," said Suarez.
Shortly after an officer encountered the woman, Suarez said she "advanced toward the officer" and a shooting occurred.
The woman was shot once and was rushed to the hospital with a non-life threatening injury.
No officers were injured.
As of Friday afternoon, at least one lane was reopened.
