AGUANGA, Calif. (KABC) -- Fire crews are making progress as they battle a vegetation fire near Aguanga in Riverside County.

In an update at 9:30 p.m., Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department said the Crossing Fire at Lower Ranch Road and Pete Crossings remains at 126 acres and is 40% contained. The department said the forward rate of spread was stopped at 5:02 p.m.

Evacuation warnings and orders that were previously in place for residents in the area have all been lifted.

Officials say the fire is terrain-driven with a slight wind. Crews made progress on the fire line in conjunction with fixed-wing and helicopter aircraft support.

The fire department said crews will keep working overnight, hitting hotspots and working to improve control lines around the fire.

The flames broke out as hot weather began hitting Southern California on Tuesday.

The brush fire is burning in a remote part of Riverside County -- about 20 miles east of Temecula.
